stephen writes to israeli ambassador urging ceasefire
Stephen has written the Israeli Ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, asking what Israel is doing to ensure a lasting peace in the Middle East.
In his letter, Stephen highlighted that over 43,000 Palestinians have been killed since October last year. He noted, too, his concerns about the difficulties Gazans have in accessing basic provisions and services such as healthcare and medical treatment which is badly needed in the region.
Having sent the letter Stephen said "The situation in Gaza is terrible. I am conscious that many of my constituents are deeply troubled by Israel's continued bombing of the region. This has seen indescribable destruction to many cities in Gaza, including displacement, death and heartache to many Palestinians.
"Israel must put an end to its current air-campaign. I hope the ambassador agrees."
Stephen's letter came on the day that the Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, travelled to Luxembourg for talks on the Middle East with other EU foreign ministers.
