stephen urges restraint in lebanon crisis
Stephen has outlined his concerns about the rising tensions and civilian casualties in Lebanon.
In comments at a constituency event in East Ham, Stephen called for an urgent focus on a negotiated political solution to end this cycle of violence
Speaking later, Stephen said: “I am deeply concerned by the rising tensions and civilian casualties in Lebanon.
“A widening of the conflict is in nobody’s interest and that’s why we are calling for an immediate ceasefire from both sides so that we can get to the political settlement that’s required - so that Israelis and Lebanese civilians can return to their homes and live in peace and security.
“I know the Foreign Secretary has spoken with Lebanese Prime Minister Mikati and expressed deep concern over rising tensions and civilian casualties in Lebanon. They discussed the need for a negotiated solution to restore stability and security across the Blue Line. Having been in touch with the Foreign Secretary myself, I know he is continuing to monitor the situation closely.”
