Stephen asks about plans for a two-state solution

Yesterday in Parliament, Stephen raised concerns with proposals by the Israeli Defence Minister for how Gaza should be governed after the conflict with Israel ends.

On Thursday 4 January, the Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant revealed his proposals for governing Gaza after the conflict there ends. Under the plans, Israel would reserve the right to conduct security operations in the territory with unspecified Palestinian bodies governing the territory.

Yesterday, 8 January, Andrew Mitchell, Minister of State for Development and Africa, delivered a statement to the House of Commons on the situation in Gaza. Stephen asked about the Israeli Defence Ministers proposals following the statement, pushing the Government on how it envisages “the two state model being taken forward once the conflict ends”.

In response, the Minister reiterated the Government’s support for a two-state solution and expressed hope that “the political track, when it can start, has real force and real strength.”
